Bite of the Week - Keebler Animals Frosted Cookies
When the Mother's Cookies company went out of business in 2008, we were shocked. Although we hadn't eaten their famous frosted animal cookies in a while (maybe we should have), we remembered the taste fondly. How lucky we all became when the Kelloggs company bought the assets to Mother's Cookies and returned the animals to the shelves in 2009. There are two different kinds of these particular cookies - frosted and iced - and they both have the same great animal shape that we all know and love. We haven't had these in the house since my sister and I were small, but Mom and I decided to relive the old days and pick up a bag. A resealable bag, for that matter. How convenient!
THE VERDICT: Reunited and it feels so good! Coated in pink and white frosting and topped with rainbow sprinkles, these shortbread cookies are sweet and addictive. According to the bag (because God help me if I could figure them out), the animal shapes included are: bear, gorilla, seal, sheep, hippopotamus, lion, horse, ram, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. I knew these cookies wouldn't last long at our house, and I was right. Although they were a little moist after hanging around with their frosted friends inside the sweaty bag, they were fantastic. We're dying to try the iced version, and we'll definitely make sure that they never disappear off the shelves again.
