It’s no secret that Mom and I are crazy for bakeries, so when we heard about Edible Creations by Gerry in Westport, we just had to make a trip to try some of his beautiful pastries.

I was the second customer on Saturday morning when they opened at 10 a.m.  According to the online reviews, the long johns and cream puffs sell out early and that’s what I wanted the most.  Of course, after taking a look in the bakery case, I ended up with a lemon and a lime cupcake in addition to long johns and cream puffs.  My total came to a little over $15.

Edible Creations by Gerry is a very small place, but it packs a big punch when it comes to quality.  Owner Gerry Dupont has been featured on The Rhode Show and – in addition to baked goods – offers a full line of prepared foods as well as catering. He also makes wedding cakes!

I couldn’t wait to get the yummies home to Mom.  We tried the long john first and it was fantastic.  The donut was thick and soft while the filling – whipped cream with a layer of jelly – was light and creamy.  After waiting about an hour for the chilled lemon cupcake to come up to room temperature, we cut that baby in half.  I think this was our favorite thing because everything about it was perfect.  From the tart lemon candy topper to the thick, sweet lemon filling inside, the cupcake was absolutely amazing.

The next day we had the cream puffs and the lime cupcake.  In addition to letting the cupcake “warm up” after being in the fridge, we did the same with the cream puff.  Doing this made the cream “pop” a little more and we could taste the freshness in every bite.  The lime cupcake was also great and we really enjoyed the thick cream cheese frosting on top and the sharp lime flavor.  Neither cupcake had an overly sweet frosting, which was something that Mom and I appreciated.

I have friends who rave about Gerry and his pastries and I can see why.  They are excellent and we can’t wait to have more.  I’ve got my eye on you, carrot cake cupcake!

(PS – Gerry’s goodies are available at A-1 Pizza in Little Compton, RI.)
